Well, that was a bit of a disaster. The Prime Minister travelled to Washington on Friday for talks with President Biden to discuss giving Ukraine the go ahead for using long-range British-supplied missiles to strike targets inside Russia. In the end, overnight Friday into Saturday European time, it went wrong. Biden explained that the US is uneasy about the decision and in effect applying a veto. As the pro-Ukraine analyst Michael Kofman has explained, approving the use of those weapons is complex and does involve risk. The direct targeting of Russia would involve planning and intelligence support from the British and the US.
