A suggestion made during David Dimbleby’s final edition hosting BBC Question Time this week provided a stark illustration of  the increasingly desperate proposals being put forward by some of my fellow Remainers.

An audience member asked if instead of a “People’s Vote” we should have a “Citizen’s Jury”. The Green Party’s Caroline Lucas, naturally, agreed that this was a very good idea that should have been implemented two years ago – she is now campaigning for a second referendum.

I confess, I was not fully acquainted with the concept of a Citizen’s Jury before last night. Apparently, it could involve around 500 people each coming from a different area of the UK, to debate and tackle the major issue facing the country. What a brilliant idea. And the general public could get to choose who sits in it.
