The People’s Republic of China is not a team player. The world has long been aware of that uncomfortable fact as this totalitarian superpower has manoeuvred and manipulated its way towards economic and geopolitical ascendancy. Yet that has not deterred Western governments and companies from cooperating in the process, running down domestic productivity and leaving China with a stranglehold on many crucial supply lines.
