Dear Mr Hunt,

This is the second time I have written to you. The first was last November when I chided you for claiming credit for the news that inflation had nearly halved, one of the government’s five pledges. It was an audacious claim on your behalf that this was because of government policy. As you well knew, the falling price of goods had far more to do with falling energy and commodity prices than any action by you or your colleagues, although obviously higher interest rates will have helped quash demand – as they were intended to do.
