If it weren’t for the antisemitism crisis in Labour, with less than a week to go to the election, I think we could be justified in feeling slightly sorry for Jeremy Corbyn.

As a nation, we love a loser.

In an interview with ITV’s Julie Etchingham, broadcast on Wednesday, the Labour leader was asked perfectly simple questions – about his home life, his wife, who does the chores – and proved utterly inept at answering them. I think this probably goes to the very heart of things. Corbyn has the air of a man who is deliberately botching stuff up in the hope we’ll all just leave him alone. If – by some quirk of fate totally beyond his control he does, perish the thought, win, he must hope that no one will acknowledge that he is really PM and he can spend his time sloping off to spend time with his drain covers.
