It has been eighteen months since the United Kingdom left the European Union, following the Tory landslide victory at the 2019 general election. Yet the remaining supporters of the People’s Vote campaign insist that the idea of re-joining the EU eventually is alive and well.
Meanwhile, back on planet Earth, Roland Rudd, financial PR man and brother of former Home Secretary Amber Rudd, and Richard Reed, the fruit smoothie magnate, have resigned as co-directors of PV Campaign Ltd.
Rudd and Reed have also quit their roles at Open Britain Ltd, the umbrella organisation behind For Our Future’s Sake (FFS), Our Future Our Choice (OFOC) and Britain for Europe.
Mark Kieran will now take over PV Campaign Ltd. The former civil servant will focus less on the Europe question and more on youth-driven issues, such as electoral reform and standing up to racism.
The last two years have been difficult for Rudd and the People’s Vote group, after the campaign for a referendum rerun failed.
Reaction knows all too well about the group’s feuding. In 2019, we had the office next door at Millbank. It was difficult to ignore the shouting. We even got a view of the explosive crisis meeting involving Rudd at their Milbank HQ. Certainly, worth a re-read given the group’s demise.
