Kathleen Stock, who has been at the centre of a bitter transphobia row, leading to protests and even a police investigation, has resigned as Professor of Philosophy at the University of Sussex.

Announcing her departure from the university, where she has taught since 2003, Stock said: “This has been an absolutely horrible time for me and my family. I’m putting it behind me now. On to brighter things soon, I hope.”

She also praised the University’s leadership as “admirable and decent” for “emphasising that bullying and harassment of anyone for their legally held beliefs is unacceptable in their workplace”.

Vice-Chancellor Adam Tickell confirmed the news of Stock’s departure, saying there has been an “intolerance of her as a member of our community”. He said this was in “direct opposition to even the most basic principles of academia”. You can read the full statement here.
