Westminster is buzzing with rumours over the identity of a Conservative MP who has been arrested on suspicion of sexual offences in the latest shocking development in the Pestminster scandal.

Scotland Yard said in a statement this afternoon: “A man was arrested on suspicion of indecent assault, sexual assault, rape, abuse of position of trust and misconduct in a public office.”

The alleged offences were committed between 2002 and 2009, and were first reported in January 2020. The MP remains in custody at the time of writing.

A Tory Whips office spokesperson has told the individual in question not to attend the parliamentary estate while the criminal probe by the Metropolitan Police’s Central Specialist Crime is ongoing. “Until the conclusion of the investigation we will not be commenting further.”

Could the bar for Westminster conduct get any lower?
