Unloading boxes of books this week, having got them all out of storage after various house moves, I had to prioritise. There are so many books that we are having to be brutal, because the nice new shelves that were built a few weeks ago are big but not big enough. About a quarter of my books will have to go.
It is probably for the best. Do I really need that pile of non-fiction about the digital revolution, all purchased en-masse a decade ago when I was preparing to write a book that never got written on the subject? Life took over and other things mattered more, so why keep those terrible, boosterish works about Silicon Valley detailing how groovy and innovative the early lords of the web were?
