Why the outrage at Israeli - but not Turkish - occupation of Syria?
Turkey - which has thousands of troops stationed across 3,500 square miles of Syria - has some nerve to accuse Israel of displaying an “occupation mentality”.
Amid the chaos in Syria, a neighbouring country crosses the border and seizes territory for "defensive purposes". If it’s Israel there’s outrage, condemnation, and calls to withdraw. If it’s Turkey – not so much.
After the fall of President Assad, Israeli forces in the Golan Heights quickly moved into the buffer zone on the Syrian side of Mount Hermon. Under Assad, the border had been mostly quiet, and his regime regarded as a second-tier threat.
