A teacher writes on the struggles of adapting to the new language of Zoom.

In pre-Covid times I used to look forward to the start of a new school term. No longer. As I contemplate my timetable for tomorrow’s INSET training day (all by Zoom, of course), my heart sinks. From the “Covid Update” session through to “Google Suite Training” and “Using Break-Out Rooms in Zoom for Remote Learning”, there is little to raise the spirits. I find myself deeply nostalgic for the distant past when the computer played a minor role in lesson planning and INSET days featured inspiring talks from expert teachers on creative ideas for classroom teaching, and tips for motivating learners which did not feature Google Classroom or Zoom functionality.
