Next month marks the tenth anniversary of the Scottish independence referendum and the defeat of the separatist Yes movement. It’s a result that should be celebrated today by Scots of all political persuasions.

For the Scottish Nationalists have made the best case yet for Scotland remaining in the Union, in proving how disastrous a different outcome on September 18, 2014, would have been for the country.

The extent of their mismanagement of the economy has been laid bare by the annual Government Expenditure and Revenue Scotland (GERS) report published this week, which showed Scotland’s deficit had increased to £22.68 billion in 2023/24, compared to just over £18 billion the previous year.
