The leadership contenders are busy setting out their vision for the country, how they will guide the country through the choppy economic storm ahead, and identifying their priorities on how to make Britain a better and more prosperous place to live. At the very top of that list must be housing.

If you know one thing about the UK’s housing troubles, you probably know that houses are too expensive, people cannot afford homeownership, and the reason for this is — allegedly — nasty NIMBYs preventing development in their areas. The problem with this is that it’s not quite right. Yes homes are too expensive for the next generation, yes we should build more to help solve this, but the solution is not to steamroller local communities to get more built, but ask for their help and draw on their power.
