I know Waheed Alli, the multi-millionaire Labour donor. Waheed Alli is a friend of mine. He is an honourable man of integrity and business acumen who has often given his time and money to help the party which he has long supported openly. He is loyal to his friends and a generous supporter of good causes.
I can see no legitimate reason why Lord Alli, an acknowledged Labour peer and fundraiser, who had frequently been in party HQ during the election campaign should not have had a temporary pass into Downing Street during the transition after the election. He was an unpaid volunteer but no one would have raised an eyebrow if he had joined the government.
I can also understand what a rich man who made his fortune in part in fashion and the media would have wanted to help out by improving the appearance of the new prime minister and his wife.
