The war in Ukraine must at some point be settled by diplomatic negotiations. This is essential to save lives, to prevent escalation and to end the extreme global instability the conflict has created. So far, talks have been unproductive; but that does not mean negotiations will not eventually bear fruit. We could not realistically expect a resolution at this stage, when both sides are still hoping to gain advantage on the battlefield.
