“Every day of procrastination, unfortunately, means deaths of our people,” said Volodymyr Zelensky today, as he renewed his pledge to the West for further air defence systems in the wake of the deadliest Russian strike on Ukraine so far this year. “In order to stop this terror, air defence systems and missiles are needed in Ukraine, not at a warehouse somewhere,” urged the Ukrainian President, as three days of mourning begin in Ukraine’s central-eastern city of Poltava after two Russian ballistic missiles killed at least 51 and injured at least 219. The suspected missile used in this attack is the high-speed “Iskander-M”, with a range of up to 300 miles. There was so little time between the air raid siren and the missiles’ arrival that some of the victims in Poltava were hit while running to bomb shelters.
