For BBC Radio 4 I’m presenting a documentary on… Brexit. No, come back, not that kind of documentary on Brexit with endless arguments about the ECJ, or fights about whether a Customs Union is the same as the Customs Union, or who Henry Bolton was, or what question a second, third, fourth or fifth referendum on Brexit would pose.

No, not that. The idea with this 45 minute programme scheduled to air this Spring is different. The production team at Radio 4 want to examine areas where the UK might make different, new policy after Brexit. Is it possible that leaving the EU might unleash some fresh-thinking in public policy? If so, where is it happening? What about improving environment policy? Or our ports? Or Fintech? Or the exciting industries of the future? How about a new focus on skills and opportunities in areas where voters feel left behind?

Yes, of course we will in the programme address the argument that a lot of this policy could have been changed without leaving the EU. But just say we could – leavers, remainers and all in between – get beyond the old arguments and feuds and use this change as an impetus to renewal and improvement. Could this ever catch on?

It doesn’t matter what you are – Left, Right, Centrist Dad, Mum of a Millennial, In, Out, Shake it All About – if you are working on a serious and  viable idea to improve Britain after Brexit, let us know and we’ll listen and see if it can be included.
