There’s a change at the top. Kemi Badenoch is the most popular minister among Tory supporters in the first ConHome league table since former defence secretary Ben Wallace’s resignation.

Wallace was consistently the most popular cabinet minister and bowed out on 76 points. Now Badenoch sits top with 59 points. In second place is the leader of the Commons Penny Mordaunt on 47.5. In third on 43.9 points is foreign secretary James Cleverly – must be his love of Afrobeats and social media game that’s going down well with the Tory faithful.

The poll provides a glimpse of what a leadership contest after a Tory election defeat might look like. Badenoch, Mordaunt and Cleverly are all likely to be contenders.
