Boris Johnson is set to make his first UK interview appearance since November on Nadine Dorries’ new TalkTV show at 8pm tonight.

The hot-seat, however, is looking more like an accommodating chaise longue given it’s his former Cabinet colleague hosting the chat.

Johnson is unlikely to have broken out in a cold sweat in the wee hours of the morning at the prospect of being interviewed by Dorries, a Boris mega-fan whom he is believed to have nominated for a peerage.

In the interview trailers, Johnson defends his legacy, insisting that Brexit “literally saved lives” by speeding up the Covid vaccine rollout.

He also addresses Partygate, saying he would be “respectful” of the process of the privileges committee investigation into his conduct, but said anyone who thought he had deliberately covered up lockdown parties in No10 was “out of their mind”.

Rottweiler Dorries goes for the jugular by suggesting Johnson is being a better Tory leader than Rishi Sunak despite not being in office. Unlike “invisible” Sunak, “you are here right now making the case” for the Conservatives, Dorries gushes in the clip.

And if it’s silly nicknames you were after, you won’t be disappointed. Dorries calls Sunak a “submarine PM” while Johnson brands Labour’s leader “crasheroonie-snoozefest Starmer”. It’s sure to be a scintillating watch.
