This weekend will be one of the most frantic and intense in recent British political history as 357 Tory MPs plot and scheme to decide on which of the three candidates they will back in Monday’s leadership contest.

Penny Mordaunt was first off the blocks to declare that she is standing or as she puts it: PM4PM.  Leader of the House of Commons, Mordaunt came third in the previous leadership election, pipped to the post by Liz Truss just eight votes ahead. Claiming to “unite our country, deliver our pledges and win the next GE”, Mordaunt will capitalise on being a fresh start. She has also asked Jeremy Hunt to stay on as Chancellor.
