The protest in Glasgow this week that resulted in police and UK Border Agency officials releasing two men who had been detained as suspected illegal immigrants was an outrage in itself, since physical obstruction of those enforcing the law is a criminal offence. But in this particular instance there were additional sinister undercurrents, lending the incident a significance it would not have had if it had occurred in Liverpool or Manchester.
