On Saturday, while much of the country had its eyes turned towards London ahead of the Queen’s funeral, violence erupted in Leicester, with large groups of young Hindu and Muslim men clashing in the city.

Large crowds gathered, with Leicestershire Police receiving reports that 200 people – many of them masked – were conducting an unauthorised protest.

Protesters reportedly shouted “Jai Shri Ram,” a chant which has become synonymous with anti-Muslim nationalism in India, whild one protestor, thought to be Muslim, was filmed tearing a flag from a Hindu Temple.
