After two years as editor of CapX – a project dedicated to promoting markets, owned by the think tank Centre for Policy Studies – I’ve moved on to start Reaction.

What is it? The idea is simple. It is a media company, a start-up, an independent business, with a site dedicated to commentary and analysis on politics, economics and culture. There is much brilliant journalism out there, but there is room for more and – we contend – for something new, distinctive and high in quality.

A small but dedicated team based in London has been assembled, with leading writers already contributing pieces. Rachel Cunliffe joins me from CapX, and will produce a daily email newsletter. My newsletter wraps up the week.

Susan E. Walton is co-founder of Reaction and in charge of the business side. Sebastian Giraud is the tech wizard behind what is – we hope you agree – a very appealing site. Our board is chaired by Lord Salisbury. An advisory board will be unveiled soon.

Reaction is pro-market, but not slavishly so and if we lean in a conservative direction it is not to the exclusion of other viewpoints. We are open-minded but make an exception when it comes to Corbynism.

The Brexit vote provided another illustration that politics and media are changing fast. This is such an interesting time. Quality journalism was already under intense pressure and the need for intelligent and accessible commentary is greater than ever.

Since we launched in June we’ve spent a lot of time this summer discussing what Reaction should offer readers as habits and technology evolve. There are exciting plans for expansion this autumn and beyond, but we would like to hear from you. We do not claim to have anything like all the answers. Let us know what you think we should be covering and how we should be doing it. You can email me at iain@reaction.life

Thank you for reading.
